Day 1 brought a mix of wind conditions with very choppy seas.  In race one we didnt get the best start but made the most of it by hitting a few shifts and getting back in the mix. We had a great gain downwind with the pumping flag now in effect with the increased breeze. We battled hard with many of the top players and recorded a 5th in the end. Race 2 we saw a mix of wind strengths before the start. After finalizing our equipment settings we got a great start. Unfortunately we missed out on the first few shifts and were back in the pack. We made a great move downwind in the tricky china-like conditions and climbed back into the top 10. However we had a difficult time finding shifts upwind and down, and finished 15th.  At the end of the day we stand 24th. Plenty of room for improvement on the scorecard with 4 races of qualifying left.
After a few great rest days we’re ready for worlds.  Today we had some last minute repairs,  measurement details, and a final check over our equipment. All looks good and we’re ready to rock.  We had a small repair needed for our puller, as it has been slowly pulling out. Luckily we had boat builder Dave McKay on hand to do a great repair job. All we have left to do is drill a new hole and we’re good to race.  Tomorrow is forecasted for a medium sea breeze. Stay tuned for results!
In preparation for the worlds coach Nigel and others organized a coaches regatta for those of us who didn’t want to compete at Sail Melbourne. We had 5 solid days of racing with a few tops mens and women’s teams. We learned a lot about the course area and feel we are ready for the worlds now.   We’re happy to not be sailing today as it is raining with no wind! We have 2 scheduled days off to rest and refocus for the worlds. Â
