Inspiration seems to come when you least expect it, and when you need it the most. Starting to get a little down with no cool boats around to sail, and my other offers caving in, i had given up hope on anything happening soon. But after a phone call this morning things look a lot more promising by the end of next week. I just really hope it happens this time!A good friend of our family and past Snipe Champion Earl Elms stopped by today for a short unexpected visit just as i was getting ready for class. He was my source of inspiration for the day rolling up with this. This here is an 12 ft singlehanded trapeze boat for “kids” up to 150 lbs (70kgs). Its a handmade, home designed boat made of 3/8” plywood with a few added carbon bits. There is yet to be any rigging, and i was totally frothing to stay up all night just to rig it for him. Its got all carbon spars and will weigh in at about 150 lbs! Amazing! Its incredibly beautiful, check out the bottom/rocker!I just cant wait to get the thing out in a solid breeze and see what i can make her do! This is eventually the kind of project i would like to do, design and build my own boat, even with plywood and see what I can do. Still no name for the thing yet but ive been slated as the test pilot as the only one around (for now) with adequate trapeze experience. I cant wait!

With more and more people concerned about media attention in the Olympics for sailing, what boat is more perfect than the moth?

Today an article was published by The Daily Sail about Bladerider, the most successful moth manufacturer, making a legitimate bid for the 2012 Games.

I for one believe this would be a smart move by ISAF and it would certainly draw more media attention to our sport in general. Who cares if no one understands that they have to tack and jibe around the course, whoever watches it will be to much in shock seeing little 60 lb, 11 ft boats flying around a race course and then having some spectacular wipe outs at times.

No this doesnt mean i would switch into the moth for the Olympics, but maybe another time. Unless they kick the mens 470 which doesnt seem likely now, but maybe in the future.

Well we’ll all see what happens in November when ISAF chooses our “new” Olympic classes.
